Carved Shell Diamond Cameo Pin Pendant 14K
This is an impressive, larger than typical antique carved shell diamond cameo pin pendant in 14K white gold. This 14K white gold brooch measures 2 1/2 inches (62.7 MM) long by 2 inches (51.3 MM) wide. It has a hinged folding bail enabling it to also be worn as a pendant.
As early as 1805, craftsmen began using shell for cameos because it was easily carved due to its many layers, as compared to onyx or agate. Designs throughout history include many subjects. But, the most common of all is that of a noble Romanesque maiden with classic features, Roman dress, jewelry and intricately, often floral embellished hair.
The woman is wearing a 14K white gold necklace prong set with a large, 3.5 MM, full cut, fully faceted .15CT diamond. The diamond is of K color and SI clarity. The diamond has a visible chip, one section is missing filigree detail and the parts of the frame are slightly bent.
Also, the brooch is priced accordingly. This truly magnificent and extremely ornately detailed oval cameo has crisp and distinct features and details. It has no cracks in the cameo itself and is bezel set in an ornate filigree frame.
The brooch is tested and guaranteed 14K and has been professionally lightly cleaned. Also, it has a pin back with secure lock.
Lastly, it weighs a substantial 20.3 grams.
